There Just Aren’t Any Good Movies
I don’t want this to sound like a rant. Well, it is a rant. But then again, it’s just the way things are. What set me off was the movie “Conclave”, with two fine actors, Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci.
Spoiler Alert – if you are planning to go see Conclave, read no further.
So, it seemed like a really good movie for an hour and a half. The Pope dies. The Cardinals get together and argue. One is ambitious. Another wants to go back to the old days. Stanley Tucci wants to be Pope, sets out his agenda, then feels inadequate.
Ralph Fiennes must decide and along comes this unexpected choice from South America, an unknown quantity. They vote, she wins, and the white smoke goes up the chimney, “Wait a minute.” you say. Was that a typo?
Nope. In the last five minutes of the movie, Ralph’s character finds out this Cardinal has a womb and ovaries. He lets the smoke fly, and the movie ends with three nuns skipping across the Vatican courtyard.
Now here is the rant part: Are you kidding me? Has Hollywood lost its mind? I believe in LGBTQ rights. I believe in everyone’s rights. But a trans Pope?
While we are at it, I heard that Barbara Streisand and two others announced they are leaving the USA. Can you believe the indulgent self-importance that would think we care? Politics aside, the election is over.
So please, if you see a good movie, let me know. We need to get back to normal. We need to buy a house, sell our house and buy another one. That’s the real American Dream – Home Ownership. So, here’s the deal; you make payments on a mortgage instead of paying rent and when you retire, you have a huge asset.
Now that’s a good movie.
