We Love You Sherry

We will miss you, Sherry. I’m sure God has a new home just for you.

The first time I met Bud was at a house on Ludlow. I had met Angie the day before, when she caught me trying to put flyers back in her sign box. She was trying to sell “By Owner” and I wanted to know the price. I had earlier taken her last flyer. So, I went to the AlphaGrapics store and ran off thirty copies. Angie startled me when I heard her say, “What are you doing?” I began explaining. A lot of hand motion was involved. She listened and then she said, “My husband is handy, and we need a project for him to redo.” That’s how I med Bud. They came to see what I thought was a house with a lot of potential. It just needed paint and carpet (this was 1997), and a few repairs.

Bud looked around, nodded, and said, “I’ll call the bank.” I was so impressed because he had a mobile phone. It was the size of a brick, but I didn’t know anyone else carrying around a phone. Bud dialed, held it to his ear, and said, “Hi, Mom?” The conversation was short, and Bud and Angie wrote a cash offer right there and then.

I remember thinking Bud’s Mom was just like mine, filled with unconditional love. Our Mothers thought we walked on water, and they never told us, “No.”

When I heard Sherry had passed, I reminded Bud about this story. I think he was pleased. Over the years, Bud and Angie have bought and sold homes. Sherry bought and sold. We even sold Bud’s sister’s ex-husband a house, and then, when his new wife divorced him, we found her a house.

We will miss you, Sherry. I’m sure God has a new home just for you.
