A few weeks ago, I realized our new office on Shea at Scottsdale Road was at the four corners of 4 great Zip Codes – 85254, 85260, 85258, and 85253.
This week, we look at the bedroom zip code of 85258. Although there is a small shopping area at Shea and the 101, including one of the last Barnes and Noble bookstores on the planet and the Honor Health hospital campus, 85258 is composed of three ranches: McCormick, Gainey and Scottsdale ranches.
McCormick Ranch has been a working ranch since 1921. In the 70’s, it was laid out as a planned community of 3,200 acres (5 square miles) with 14,000 residents today. Its’ lakes and golf courses are part of Scottsdale’s innovative drainage system, which has attracted study by city planners the world over.
Gainey Ranch was a 640-acre Arabian horse ranch until 1980, when home construction began. The Hyatt Regency opened in 1986. The last 80 acres became a ritzy shopping center at Scottsdale Road and Doubletree. Many old-timers remember the white rail fence on Scottsdale Road with a champion stallion taking his ease as traffic roared nearby.
Scottsdale Ranch began development in 1978, with its beautiful man-made lakes and waterfront homes, along with many smaller homes and gated patio home communities.
85258 has something for everybody.
