Did you know that the song "Silver Bells" is about the Salvation Army red kettles at Christmas? That’s right. When Ray Evans and Jay Livingston created this holiday classic in 1952, they were depicting the sounds of Christmas in New York City. Today, we hear the bells in front of superstores and supermarkets.
It is terrible to be homeless and hungry anywhere, but to be homeless and hungry in America is awful. The Salvation Army serves thousands of meals at the Convention Center on Thanksgiving and at Christmas. The Salvation Army shelter on Van Buren is the only shelter in Phoenix that doesn’t break up the family. All the other places of refuge call Child Protective Services before they give up a bed. The Salvation Army takes in the kids, and even the dog and the cat.
Real Estate Wednesdays was formed in 2013 by Those Callaways. Each Wednesday between Thanksgiving and Christmas, thousands of caring real estate agents, brokers, lenders, title officers, and affiliates have been volunteering to ring the bells at a Red Kettle nearby.
This year, Those Callaways are doing something a little different. We are sponsoring a Red Kettle Campaign online in the hopes of reaching more people.
